Business Mentors – How Do You Find or even Identify A Mentor?

In life, people are not expected to go at things on their own. If it seems impossible and you need someone to support you, you can always choose to work with a mentor—someone who will direct your path and tell you what to do; someone who will help put a sense on things and help you make better decisions.

Are you thinking of getting a mentor? If you are, here are some good things to consider:

  1. Get a mentor who has succeeded. Not all people who have a business can go around mentoring people. If you want to be led towards success, you will need to pick a mentor who has landed on success and has a workable equation to pass on to you. You want a mentor whose guidance can guarantee results. You want a mentor whose footsteps are really worth following because you know you will be guided through the right path.
  2. Get a mentor who is in the same industry as yours. If you really want specific guidance, you will choose a mentor who works in the same industry as yours because his own experiences will be of true value to you. Not only can he speak in the general sense of things because he can really guide you through everything, apply same strategies he carried out and give insight to things in a more personal level.
  3. Get a mentor who is a good instructor. This is very important because not all successful people have the power, patience and talent to teach. You need a mentor who is willing to go through your journey with you and not one who cannot commit fully. An ordinary person will tire easily, even get frustrated, but when you pick a mentor who is a good teacher, he will be patient and he will delight at your progress and learning.
  4. Get a mentor who is reputable in his position. Of course you should not just pick just about anyone. You need to pick a mentor who is well known in the industry and one who has a good reputation that backs up his work.

Most business mentors will offer free consultation. This is their “interview” and your opportunity to scrutinize them, so that you could make a better decision. Make sure to take time to consider your different options before deciding to work with a specific mentor. Do not be in hurry because your decision will definitely make a difference in your business.
